Day 61. A. Vassiliev exhibitions. Part III. Tamed Nature. 18th - 21st Century.

Today, on February 22, my work collegues and I have visited one of  fashion historian's Alexandre Vasilyev exhibitions.

Inspired by Nature of Africa

This time it was Exhibition: Tamed Nature. 18th - 21st Century.
As our guide said it was the ninth Alexandre Vasilyev exhibition here in Vilnius.
Location: the Museum of Applied Arts which is a part of the Lithuanian Art Musem.

All the info about the museum you can find here.

The Museum of Applied Arts was established in 1987 in the reconstructed historical Arsenal, mentioned in the middle of 16th century annals as a part of the Lower Castle complex. In the middle of 15th century the eastern masonry wall of the Lower Castle was built. The bottom of the wall was mostly large stone masonry. At the confluence of the rivers Neris and Vilnele the eastern wall terminated in a square brickwork tower. The fragments of this tower can bee seen upon entering the museum on the right side the stairs. The eastern defensive wall was found to contain four-meter tall and three-meter wide pointed arch castle gate, which obviously led to the so called Crooked castle. Today thsi gate admits the visitors of the exhibition.

The museum hosts temporary exhibitions as well as international projects, educational sessions, and

As I mentioned above, It's not the first exhibition of Alexandre Vassiliev hosted by the Museum of Applied Arts.

Day 60. Vilnius News: Future Monument to Jonas Basanavicius

#DrBasanavičiusIsBACK

Today, on February 20, 2017 the project of future Monument to Jonas Basanavicius  by Gediminas Antanas Sakalis, Gediminas Piekuras and Algirdas Rasimavičius was chosen. (news by www.15min.lt (in LT)

The monument should be erected till February 16, 2018. Perhaps in the front of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic.

The projects were presented to the public in the Vilnius Town Hall, so few days ago I've decided to visit it.

The third place project

The fourth place project

Besides, I had the opportunity to take a glimpse at the Exhibition of photographers from Oman "Treasures of Oman" (in LT) which was exhibited there till 28 February.

All the projects, in my opinion, are acceptable, some were quite similar to each other with Jonas Basanavicius sitting on the chair.

The post abou the inauguration of the monument comes on Day 80 :)

Day 59. Palace of Grand Dukes of Lithuania

Day 58. Visit to Lithuanian National Drama Theatre

Every Vilnius resident at least once a year has to visit a National Drama Theatre (subjetive) :)

Photo by Dmitrij Matvejev (taken from wiki SheKnowsEverything)

Founded in 1940 as Vilnius State Theatre, it became Lithuanian National Drama Theatre in 1998.

Location - in the heart of Vilnius, not far away from the Cathedral, at Gediminas ave. 9.

Some production by foreign directors are performed with English subtitles, for example Heroes' Square by Thomas Bernhard, directed by Krystian Lupa (2015), or a shoking (in my opinion) Our Class by Tadeusz Slobodzianek, directed by Yana Ross (2013), and others.

Therefore, also Vilnius visitors can visit the theatre.

The Big Hall has 660 seats, the Small Hall has 171 seats, the Studio is used for experimental production.

All the other information and the facts and dates you can find by clinking on the link wiki just at the bottom of the picture.

On the whole, I love this place, I love actors and the atmosphere, although some produtions last for 3 hours and 30 min, what, after a long working day, could be a real challange.
