Well, here are some news from Pilaitė.

It was decided that new a beach in Pilaitė near Gilužis Lake will be opened.

What does it mean for us - residents of our dearest Pilaitė?

So, first, we had this beach till  this moment and it was visited by a lot of people who wanted spent their time by the lake and the beach is definitely nothing new for us.

Second, the beach and surroudings will get more crowded. The last thing that we want is hundreds of cars passing on a quite Angelavos str.

Third, as surroundings get more crowded, the amount of trashes will significantly increase.

To sum up up, nothing good for us - resisdents of Pilaitė.

The beach was ready in Summer 2020. 

I wouldn't say that the beach has changed significantly. It's tidy. On hot summetr days it's  crowded.

The footbridge is new.

In summer plastic ponton (pontoon) brigde was mounted.

Day 30. Pilaitė Part II. News. Pilaite Parish plans and projects for the future.

My dearest Pilaitė has its own parish with a church - St. Joseph Church.

Well, I always used to think that it is a churcj but it turned out to be only a chapel. Therefore Pilaite parish priests as well as parishioners had a dream to construct a church for 15 years already.
Their dream is starting to become true. The construction of a new church has begun.

On March 19, on St Joseph's Day, a Ceremony of Laying Foundation Stone ( or Conerstone) fo the future church took place. The Foundation Stone is layed in the place of future central altar.

Day 31. Pilaitė. Part II. A winter walk in Sudervėlė valley

We had a beautiful winter this year on Palm Sunday in my dearest Pilaite.

As this winter lasted for 2 days, I couldn't miss the opportunity to have a nice winter walk. 

I start my walk by going towards the Salotes Lake. You can stop near the lake or go further to the so called Pilaite Forest.

I always go to the forest to the hill where a beautiful view on a stream (little river) Sudervėlė  and the Sudervėlė valley discloses. Sudervele, rising in swampy meadows near Zujunai, is a right tributary of the Neris River.

This hill, in my opinion, is a perfect place for kids sledding.

Usually I go down the hill and cross the Sudervele and go towards Karoliniškės.

However, on this Sunday the water in Sudervėlė was quite high so I couldn't cross the stream.

For me - a perfect winter view with a stream

 I walked along the right bank of Sudervėlė till the first living hose on Rojaus str. and I came back. Beside a high level of water I've noticed that Sudervele was quite polluted that day :(

A totally windless place

But the forest was still exremely calm and beautiful.

Mayor of Vilnius City Mr. Šimašius has promised 9 km of new paved sidewalks in the city.
Promises are not only empty words. :)
We have a new sidewalk in Piliate which was accomplished in few weeks.

Day 53. Pilaite Part IV. Walk in Pilaite's surroundings.

I' m going to present you a long walk just perfect for not too cool and not to warm weekend.

You can start your walk by going towards the Salotes lake and walk through Sudervele Valley.

All the time you go along the Sudervele Stream. You pass the Gudeliai village. (in LT) (Zujūnai eldership (in LT).

In Gudeliai you can turn left and follow Taurupes str. untill you get to Karoliniškės district, or turn right into Senuju Gudeliu str. , follow the Sudervele till you reach Upes str. and almost the Neris. 

yes, yes. Upės street. Upės street bacame the most famous Vilnius region street in 2020 because the PM of the 17th Government of the RL  Mr Saulius Skvernelis lives there.

I had a meme somewhere on this but Ican not find it right now. 

Follow Upes str. until you reach the sign Griovių geomorfologinis draustinis (in LT).

Here Grioviai Geomorphical Reserve starts. You cross a nameless stream. Then turn right into Pasieniu str., later into Grioviu str. 

On your right you will pass a pond and a strange deserted building, I guess, the former watermill. 

2021 

You will walk through Grioviai village (in LT). 

Then you can:

1) turn right and go trought Dvarykščiai village till you reach Salotė village and you will get to the Salote Lake again.

or

2) go straight and follow a path along the western bank of a small Baltieša lake untill you get into Salotes str. Turn left and not far away the Gelūžė lake (in LT) is located. 

Just near the lake on the opposite side of the road Vilkeliškių piliakalnis (in LT) (Vilkeliskes Mound) is located. 

The fastest way to get to Pilaite again is to follow Angelavos str. and Pretorijaus str. 

The walk is approximately 10  km long.
